Health service is an essential service for humans. It is the duty of the state to provide health service to the people in an easy, assured, transparent and accessible manner. This hospital was started as Beni Health Center in Myagdi district of Dhaulagiri zone in 2052 BS. Later, this hospital operated its service as Myagdi District Hospital from 2063 BS. The objective of the Ministry of Health and Population is to promote and develop modern and traditional health treatment methods to improve the physical and mental health of the general public, prevent diseases effectively and make appropriate arrangements for treatment, formulate policies, implement, monitor and evaluate health service-related programs with the involvement of non-governmental organizations and the private sector, and bring about positive changes in the living standards of the general public. In line with this objective, in the course of developing and expanding health services, Myagdi District Hospital has been upgraded to Beni Hospital since 2072 BS and services have been started with 50 beds. This hospital is expected to benefit about 600,000 people from all four districts of Parbat, Myagdi, Mustang and Baglung, not just Myagdi district.
This Beni Hospital currently has 10 specialist level doctors, including 1 medical superintendent. Similarly, there are 59 government posts for medical officers, nursing, lab, radiology and others. To make the hospital services effective, a total of 36 people are working at various levels from the Hospital Development Committee at the local level. Currently, all the posts up to the medical officer have been filled in the hospital, and some medical officers and specialist doctors have been deployed on contract service by the Government of Nepal, so the service has been expanded and Major Operation services have been operated.
Due to the lack of specialist doctors in the government posts, it is difficult to provide specialist services from this hospital. The hospital operates 24-hour regular emergency services, outpatient and inpatient services, along with maternity, lab radiology, and ultrasound services. In addition, this hospital provides free blood testing, counseling and counselling services for HIV infected people as well as free ART facilities for people with AIDS. The new program of the Government of Nepal, the Hospital-based One-Stop Crisis Management Center for Gender-Based Violence, is also operated in this hospital, in which victims of gender-based violence can receive free health as well as psychosocial counseling services and get additional advice and support for legal treatment. This hospital has also been developed as an EWARS Sentinel Site for epidemic diseases and regular reports have been made. A hospital pharmacy has been operated in the hospital, from which medicines are available 24 hours a day at affordable prices. In addition, dialysis services are provided regularly in the hospital. A 52 kilowatt solar power system has been installed to provide 24-hour electricity to the hospital premises.
Thus, the only specialist service in this Beni Hospital, which is home to a majority of remote and backward communities, is currently under construction and the posts of specialist doctors are vacant. It seems that the availability of appropriate medical equipment and manpower according to the posts should be completed. This will enable the poor and underprivileged people at the local level to obtain their fundamental right to health treatment and will provide further support in implementing the health policy brought by the Government of Nepal.
