Located on the banks of the holy confluence of the Seti and Madi rivers, this Byas municipality, which is the auspicious place (work place) of Maharishi Rved Byas and Parashar, was declared as Byas Municipality in Chaitra 2048 BS after the restoration of multi-party democracy in the country. According to the decision of the Council of Ministers of the Government of Nepal dated 2071 Marg 16, Pokharibhanjyang VDC was merged into this municipality, and according to the notification published in the Nepal Gazette of the Government of Nepal on 27 Falgun 2073 BS, the entire part of Syamgha and Kyamin VDCs, Ward No. 4-9 of Tanuhansur VDC, Ward No. 4-9 of Keshavtar VDC, 2-7, Ward No. 2-8 of Ghansikuwa Rural Municipality, Ward No. 1-5, 7-9 of Risti Rural Municipality and Ward No. 6-9 of Satiswarra Rural Municipality have been reorganized according to the federal structure by renaming the office of the Byas Municipality Municipal Executive Office. Located 150 km. West of Kathmandu and 50 km. East of Pokhara on the Prithvi Highway, this municipality is also the district headquarters (Damauli) of Tanahu District under Province No. 4 of Nepal. This municipality is surrounded by Bhanu Municipality and Bandipur Rural Municipality in the east, Myagde Rural Municipality and Shuklagandaki Municipality in the west, Lamjung and Kaski Districts and Rishing and Devghat Rural Municipality in the north. 

 

This municipality, which has an area of ​​248.00 sq. km., is divided into 14 wards (246 toles as of 30 Asar 2080). Out of which, Ward No. 1, 2, 3 and 4 are urban areas, Ward No. 5, 7, 10 and 11 are semi-urban areas and all the remaining wards are rural areas. This municipality is located at an altitude of 280 m. to 1245 m. above sea level, and the temperature ranges from a minimum of 8.40 Celsius to a maximum of 37.00 Celsius, and the average annual rainfall is 1960.6 mm. 


 
If we look at the population of this municipality, in 2053 BS, the N.P. According to a survey conducted by the National Census of 2011, the total population was 24,259, while according to the National Census of 2011, the total population was 70,335, including 31,260 males and 39,075 females. According to the National Census of 2011, the total population was 78,939, including 36,157 males and 42,782 females, and the number of households was 22,585. The population density of this municipality is 318.30 per square kilometer. 85.3 percent of the population of this municipality is literate.

 

 The main caste groups in this municipality are Brahmin, Magar, Kshetri, Darai, Newar, Gurung, Kami, etc. It is considered the birthplace of the Darai caste, which is considered rare in the entire kingdom. Chudka, Ghatu and Kaura are the folk dances here. Ghatu, Bhailo, Jhyaure and traditional Teej songs and dances are also the most popular folk culture of this municipality. Although the residents of the city are partially involved in jobs, business and foreign employment, agriculture is the main source of income. The valleys in the arms of Sage, Buldi, Bordhan, Risti, Kalesti and Chhabdi rivers are fertile and evergreen, while small and large tarns like Kumaltari, Baireni and Bhadgau are scattered due to lack of irrigation.

 

Chhabdi Baraha, which is considered a famous religious place, is located about 7 km east of Damauli. Thousands of religious tourists and well-wishers visit Chhabdi Baraha every year. Apart from that, the religious and historical places of this municipality include Ghutukdi Baraha, Nirbu Baraha, Chamre Odar, Vyas Cave, Shivatanchayan Temple, Parashar Cave, Ananta Cave, Galekhamkot, Manungkot, Kyamin Kot, Pulimarang and Tanahunsur Darbar etc. Similarly, there are Ganeshman Park, Children's Park, Water Fountain, Bhanughasi Memorial Park and Shahid Kalika Park etc. as amusement parks.


Out of the past three elections of this municipality, in the first election (2049), the Nepali Congress won all the elected officials of this municipality, while in the subsequent elections, the Nepali Congress has been winning in most of the wards, including the mayor and deputy mayor.

 

Before the establishment of the municipality, physical infrastructure such as roads, electricity, drinking water, telephone were limited to the district headquarters Damauli only, while after the establishment of the municipality, the municipality has been successful in gradually expanding these physical facilities to the rural areas of the municipality. In the field of transportation, there are mainly 95.37 km of pitch roads, 170.60 km of gravel roads, 473.33 km of unpaved roads, 857 m of main sewers and 69,223 m of branch sewers. There are also concrete bridges, pontoon bridges, steel bridges, culverts, etc. In the education sector, this municipality has been carrying out new building construction, room additions, roof repairs, furniture construction, etc. in public schools. In the field of drinking water, it has been constructing medium and small drinking water projects and handing them over to the consumers. In the health sector, there are 2 government hospitals and 5 private hospitals, 10 health posts, 8 urban health centers, 6 basic health centers, 2 community health units, 1 district ayurveda, 3 ayurveda dispensaries and 36 clinics. About 99.8 percent of electricity has been supplied. 2781 telephone lines have been distributed in urban areas and mobile services have been distributed in all rural areas. In the sanitation sector, 11.5 tons of garbage have been collected daily (in the market area).

 

The income data so far shows that this municipality has been increasing its income. In the initial year (049.50), this municipality has been successful in increasing its total own source income from 23 lakhs to around 195.4 lakhs in the financial year 2078.079. The main sources of income are shop rent, integrated property tax, map pass fee, ballast, sand, etc. 

 

Finally, as a local government, this municipality has been gradually moving forward with its services to the city residents in a way that is accessible and fast, as well as providing clean and pure drinking water facilities, gradually graveling and paving the unpaved roads so that traffic can travel to and from Damauli Market from each ward, assisting in the establishment of infrastructure to provide social services to women, tribal people and backward classes and communities, implementing advanced agricultural systems, activating community forest user committees and conducting programs to raise public awareness about them, planting trees and supporting the work of maintaining environmental balance, using solar energy in the well-organized settlement and electrification programs, replacing old poles with new poles, etc. This municipality is moving forward at a steady pace with its resources and means, with the aim of prioritizing sanitation, landfill sites, slaughterhouses, organized bus parks and stadiums, black pits and sewage disposal programs in urban areas and creating urban infrastructure in a phased manner, providing support through various skill-based training to create self-employment opportunities for women and backward ethnic groups, making illiterate people living in urban areas literate to meet the minimum basic needs of urban residents living in rural areas, protecting and promoting natural beauty and cultural heritage, as well as highlighting their tourist importance. Government of Nepal, Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration, Government of Gandaki Province, Urban Development Fund, District Coordination Committee, Earthquake Technology National Society-Nepal are playing a significant role in supporting this municipality.
