CLEAN UP NEPAL, also known as Swachha Safa Nepal, is a national level non- governmental and non-profit organization established on May 22, 2014. CLEAN UP NEPAL emphasizes community empowerment, institutional capacity building, and policy advocacy.
CLEAN UP NEPAL is a for-purpose, non-governmental organization registered in Nepal in 2014 that envisions communities having access to a solid waste management and water, sanitation and hygiene system with the associated knowledge and resources that will enable them to live a healthy, disease-free life. It provides an enabling environment by connecting, educating and empowering local communities and relevant stakeholders through a people-centered, solution-based approach.
Through initiatives like the Zero Waste at Schools (ZWAS) program, door-to-door awareness campaigns, and technical training for duty bearers/ local governments, the organization fosters behavioral change and strengthens governance. It also promotes green entrepreneurship, supports the informal waste sector, waste workers to ensure the occupational health & safety, facilitates the construction of Material Recovery Facilities (MRFs), and support equipement to advance circular economy principles.
A key innovation is the Safa Nepal App, an award winning open-data platform recognized globally through the World Summit Award (2023) and the National Energy Globe Award. This digital tool enables local governments to conduct evidence-based waste management analysis while empowering citizens to report environmental issues, ensuring transparency and accountability.
