The Depot School was established in 1963 in Dharan, co-located with the Headquarters Brigade of Gurkhas Nepal (HQBGN), by the Brigade of Gurkhas (BG) with the aim of providing education up to high school level to the children of British Gurkha servicemen and veterans of the Brigade at a minimum cost. In the early seventies HMG Nepal decided to close all private schools in the country to convert it into a government run schools. However, the government granted permission to the BG to run the school as private boarding in 1983. The government funding for the school was withdrawn following the granting of the permission. The construction of the buildings then was funded by contribution from the British Gurkha servicemen’s salary, which is known as ‘One Day Pay Scheme (ODPS)’. In 1984, the school received substantial grant from the honourable Dr Horace Kadoorie Foundation, which has been supporting the Nepali communities for several decades. The grant allowed the school to refurbish the old buildings to bring them to a good standard. In 1989, the HQBGN moved from Ghopa Camp, Dharan, to Kathmandu. The responsibility of running of the school then was transferred to a trust, made up of veterans of the BG. The Trust has been running the school on not-for-profit principle and have relied upon donors to improve the school facilities. The school is located on a large plot of land covering 13.53 Bigha (175.89 Ropani) in the northwestern part of the B.P. Koirala institute of Health Science (BPKIHS). Several generous organisations and individuals have provided financial assistance to further improve the school facilities, thus enhancing the learning experience of the children. Due to its continued high standard, 100% pass rate in School Leaving Certificate (SLC) since 1996, the school has been among the first choice of parents for their children. Considering the children’s needs and with a purpose of providing quality higher education too, the Depot Adarsha Multiple Campus was established in 2071 B.S. Since its establishment, the school has provided quality education to more than ????? children from all societal background. Based on its reputation of providing quality education and extra curriculum activities, the school has been able to assert its place among the very top education establishments in East Nepal.
