According to the three-tier governance system in the Constitution of Nepal, Bagmati Province is one of the seven provinces in the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal. This province has 13 districts including Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading, Chitwan, Makawanpur, Sindhuli, Ramechhap, Dolakha, Sindhupalchowk, Kavre, Bhaktapur, Lalitpur and Kathmandu. This province has a total of 119 local levels including 3 metropolitan cities-3, sub-metropolitan cities-1, municipalities-41 and rural municipalities-74. The Ministry of Social Development has been established in Bagmati Province with the responsibility of carrying out the work of the social sector. The Directorate of Education Development has been established under this ministry with the provincial government. In accordance with the spirit of the federal governance system, the Directorate of Education Development has been established for the management of early childhood education, school education to higher education at the provincial level. This directorate has been carrying out the tasks delegated by the Teacher Service Commission, tasks related to the management of the Secondary Education Examination (SEE), the implementation of policies and plans and approved annual programs of the provincial government, educational statistics and research, and coordination with the local level, facilitation and capacity building programs. This directorate has been provided with 27 human resources. As per the decision of the provincial government dated 2080.08.12, the directorate has been assigned the work responsibilities in the subject areas such as education, science and technology, women, children, senior citizens, persons with disabilities, social security and skill-based training.
