Kawasoti Municipality, located in the district headquarters of Nawalparasi (East of Bardaghat Susta), was declared by the Government of Nepal on 25 Baisakh 2071 to have 16 wards by integrating the then 4 Village Development Committees (Kawasoti, Shiva Mandir, Pithauli and Agauli). In the course of restructuring the state in accordance with the Constitution of Nepal, the Government of Nepal has established a municipality with 17 wards, including the wards of the then municipality and the Kumarbarti Village Development Committee, effective in 2073 BS.

The name of Kawasoti Municipality is associated with the former Kawasoti Village Development Committee. After the decision to merge the former Kawasoti and other VDCs into a municipality was made by the Government of Nepal, the municipality was named Kawasoti after the same name. In fact, the word Kawasoti is associated with a natural resource river. According to the Nepali dictionary, Kawa means walking in a circular path and Soti means flowing water in a horizontal place. Among the rivers within the municipality area, Kerunge Khola, Patthar Khola, Lokaha Khola, Ban Khola etc. have provided great relief in irrigation and have been causing great damage to crops due to the lack of embankments. It can be assumed that the municipality was named after this river through Kawasoti VDC.

This municipality is one of the 85 local levels under Gandaki Province. The area of this municipality is spread over 108.35 square kilometers. Of this, 2500 hectares of land is used for agricultural land use. The municipality is bordered by Devchuli Municipality and Chitwan National Park in the east, Madhyabindu Municipality and Hupsekot Rural Municipality in the west, Hupsekot Rural Municipality and Devchuli Municipality in the north, and Chitwan National Park in the south. According to the 2078 BS census, the population is 86,821 and the population density is 801, the total number of families is 22,166, and the sex ratio is 87.53. This municipality, which is mainly inhabited by people of all castes and religions, including Brahmins, Kshetri, Tharu, Magar, Gurung, Majhi, Bote, Musahar, has a majority of people who follow Hindu, Buddhist, Muslim, and Christian religions.

As it is in the process of being upgraded as a new city with great potential in terms of agriculture, tourism and industry, it has not yet had to bear the curse of ugliness. This city, spread over 17 wards, has ample grounds for proper management of integrated settlement development, planned urbanization, availability of basic physical facilities, etc. Learning from the problems faced by old cities, Kawasoti city has a bright future if it seriously studies the unique possibilities in the city and moves forward with a long-term plan. In addition, the coastal area of the Narayani River is being developed as a hub for observation and ecotourism. Since it is being developed as a pocket area in the agricultural sector, this city can be developed as a city oriented towards self-reliance in food.
