Looking at the history of public health service hospitals, it is found that Koshi Hospital is 130 years old and the oldest hospital in Nepal. In BS 1947, Bir Shamsher reached various parts of the country from the east to the west by numbering. In this process, P Bir hospitals were opened in different places in the same year, and it is seen from the records that Bir Hospital in Kathmandu was established after the establishment of this hospital. BS 1927, most of the government offices were located in Rangeli Bazaar, which was established as the headquarters of Morang district. It is clear from the records carved on wood that the 1st Lumbar P Bir Hospital established in 1947 was established there and later in BS 1971, when the district headquarters was shifted to Biratnagar, this hospital was also shifted to Biratnagar. The signboard of the hospital, which was made with beautiful letters carved on smooth wood, is still preserved in the hospital. The word P written in it means Prithvi Bir Bikram and the word Bir means Bir Shamsher. It is understood that at that time, it was customary to name objects of public importance with the joint names of both the king and the Rana (Prime Minister). In addition, an article from that time mentioned in the souvenir published by Bir Hospital on the occasion of its 100th anniversary has proven that Koshi Hospital is the oldest hospital in Nepal based on all the factual evidence.
