Among the 753 local levels formed under the changed political structure of Nepal, Kushma Municipality is located in Parbat District under Province No. 4. It seems that this municipality was named after the name Kushma, the headquarters of Parbat District, one of the four districts of the former Dhaulagiri Zone. The district headquarters Kushma area, located on the banks of the famous Krishna Gandaki and in the lap of the Kalanjar Hampal Mountains, was called Kushumpur in ancient times because it was full of Kushaikusha gardens, and later this word was corrupted into Kushmachaur and the name Kushma remained. This municipality is spread over an area from Kushumpur (Kushma), where Goddess Parvati was believed to have been born in mythological times, to Arthar Dandakharka, which is the base area of the famous Panchase described in Vedic literature. This municipality is an important area in terms of eco-tourism, religious tourism, trekking, rafting, picturesque scenery, and economic development.
