Lumbini Cultural Municipality is located in Rupandehi District of Lumbini Province of Nepal. Geographically, Lumbini Cultural Municipality is located between 83 degrees 13 minutes and 83 degrees 20 minutes east longitude and 27 degrees 23 minutes and 40 seconds north latitude. Lumbini Cultural Municipality is a major tourist destination in Lumbini Province. Since the birthplace of Siddhartha Gautam Buddha, Lumbini, falls within the municipality, this municipality is named Lumbini Cultural Municipality. With an area of ​​about 112.21 sq. km., this municipality is bordered by Gaidahawa Rural Municipality to the north, Kapilvastu District to the west, Sammarimai Rural Municipality to the south, and Kotahimai and Mayadevi Rural Municipality to the east. Lumbini Cultural Municipality was declared a municipality on Baisakh 15, 2071. When the municipality was declared, the former Bhagwanpur, Lumbini Adarsh, Tenuhawa, Ekla, Khudabagar, Madhubani, and Masina Rural Municipality were included. There were a total of 18 wards, and on 21st February 2072, the previous Ama Village Council was included, and a total of 21 wards were established. On 22nd February 2073, according to the decision of the Government of Nepal, the previous wards were reduced to 13 wards. A total of 185 educational institutions, including 11 secondary schools, 50 basic schools and 144 others, are operating in this municipality. Among the newly formed municipalities in Rupandehi district, Lumbini Cultural Municipality is a municipality with great development potential. In addition, its conscious political parties and motivated city residents are also the sources of strong and sustainable development of this municipality. People of different castes and religions reside in this municipality. According to the National Census 2078, the total population is 87,383, of which the largest number is Muslim 29,461 (33.7%), followed by Yadav 11,648 (13.3%) and Lodh 7095 (8.1%). There are 13 wards in this municipality. Agriculture accounts for the largest share of the average family income, while foreign employment is one of the main sources of income for local residents. The residents here, who are looking for an alternative to the traditional system of agricultural business, have started enjoying a modern lifestyle. The number of local people going abroad for employment and studies is increasing rapidly. There are a few educational institutions in this city that provide basic to higher education. In addition to local students, students from neighboring rural municipalities also come to the educational institutions of this city for study. Although most of the houses have been electrified, some citizens belonging to marginalized groups are not able to access electricity. Due to the lack of representatives in the local bodies, difficulties in implementing planned development programs, and difficulties in necessary financial management, the expected development of this municipality has not been achieved. Various festivals are celebrated in this area, where people of different communities and castes reside. Dashain, Tihar, Maghi, Holi, Gaura, Krishna Janmashtami, Bakra Eid, Aitabari, Chhath Parva, Buddha Jayanti, Triphmas etc. are found to be the major festivals here.
