Nepal Police Central Forensic Science Laboratory (NPCFSL) is a pioneer institution dedicated to advancing the realms of forensic science and technology in Nepal. Established in the year 1995 under the aegis of Crime Investigation Department with a steadfast commitment to upholding justice and ensuring the rule of law, NPCFSL stands as a cornerstone in the nation's forensic landscape. Envisioning the state-of-the-art laboratory, it is equipped with cutting-edge technology and manned by a team of highly skilled forensic experts, scientists, and professionals. At NPCFSL, we take pride in our unwavering dedication to providing accurate and reliable scientific analysis to aid investigations and legal proceedings.
NPCFSL is dedicated to the identification, scientific examination, and analysis of wide array of physical evidence encountered in crimes across the nation. Currently located in Samakhushi, Kathmandu, the laboratory comprises 11 distinct sections categorized under four wings. It provides forensic services to all the investigating units of Nepal Police, Courts, Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) and other agencies. 
It has branch laboratories in Dharan and Nepalgunj. Forensic Science Laboratory, Dharan provides forensic services related to toxicological examination and narcotics and psychotropic examination. Forensic Science Laboratory, Nepalgunj provides toxicological examination service.

Functions

  • To perform scientific examination and interpretation of physical evidences submitted to the laboratory by criminal justice community and  other government agencies and provide them written expert opinion.
  • To present expert witness testimony in courts of law or other concerned agencies in an understandable, unbiased and professional manner.
  • To store the received evidences safely and maintain their chain of custody.
  • To conduct forensic trainings in different disciplines for laboratory’s employees and provide them opportunities to participate in international trainings, seminars, workshops, conferences, etc. to ensure their professional growth.
  • To conduct research independently or in collaboration with national or international organization in the area of forensic science.
  • To establish new services as well as expand services to other parts of the country as per requirements.
  • To provide expert services or advice to crime scene investigation related to serious crimes on demand basis and to provide expert advice on forensic related matter to criminal justice community or other concerned agencies.
  • To implement quality standards to make the service credible.
  • To establish internationally practiced database like AFIS, DNA database, Ballistics database, etc. for the purpose of crime investigation.
  • To impart knowledge of forensic science to all stakeholders by organizing training, workshops and laboratory visit.
  • To co-ordinate with national and international agencies to identify and expand the area of cooperation aimed at strengthening the laboratory.
  • To perform other works as prescribed.
