Pakhribas Municipality is located in Dhankuta District under Province No. 1. This municipality is bordered by Chhathar Jorpati Rural Municipality and Dhankuta Municipality to the east, Bhojpur District to the west, Mahalaxmi Municipality to the north, and Sahidbhumi Rural Municipality to the south. The center of this municipality is located near the Jalpadebi Temple in Pakhribas Bazaar. This municipality is located in the north of the Mahabharata mountain range, 200 meters above sea level, from the mouth of Mugakhola to the Ramche Dada, 1852 meters above sea level. The total area of this municipality is 144.29 square kilometers and the population is 22078.
Naming
In the past, there was no proper arrangement for travelers to stay in this Pakhribas. Therefore, travelers used to stay in the foothills of trees called Pakhri Wapakari. Since Pakhri Wapakari was a place to stay, it was called Pakhri Wapakaribas. Local elders say that over time, the same word was corrupted and became Pakhribas. On 2071 BS, Pakhribas, Sanne, Phalate, Ghorlikharka and Muga were merged into Pakhribas Municipality, and on 2073 BS, Chungwang VDC was merged into Pakhribas Municipality under the federal system of governance.
Climate
The Pakhribas Municipality area has a climate suitable for human habitation and farming. Different types of climates are found in this area, which is influenced by the topography. In particular, the climate here is temperate. However, the valley and lower hill areas of Pakhribas have a hot climate, the middle hill areas have a warm temperate climate, and the upper hill areas have a cold temperate climate. The average temperature in summer is 23.83 degrees Celsius and the average temperature in winter is 11.68 degrees Celsius.
Administrative division
On 2071 Salmangsir 16, the former Pakhribas, Sanne, Phalate, Ghorlikharka and Muga were merged to form Pakhribas Municipality, which was divided into 15 wards. On 27 Salfalgun 2073, Chungwang Village Municipality was merged to form Pakhribas Municipality, which was formed as per the federal government system, with 10 wards.
According to the 2068 BS census, the total population of this municipality is 22078 people. Of which 10054 are males and 12024 are females. This municipality, which is inhabited by mixed castes, mainly includes Chhetri, Rai Tamang, Magar, Kamibahun, Newar and other castes.
As an organic agricultural and tourist town
Pakhribas Municipality, which carries the slogan "Pride of Pakhribas Municipality, Identity of Organic Agriculture City", can be developed as an organic agriculture and tourism city. Pakhribas has the Pakhribas Agricultural Research Center, built with the support of the British government. This research center uses animals and seeds that are adapted to different altitudes in the hilly region. In addition, the Natural Resources and Management College, which has recently been established in this area, which teaches agricultural science at the undergraduate level, has increased the potential for agrotourism. Kurilo, Suntala, Junar, lemon, apple, kiwi, avocado, cardamom, ginger, tea, spices are produced in this area. Natural and cultural heritages such as Jalpadebi, Ramche Dada, Joutar, Pakhribas Research, Nainital and tea gardens within this municipality, which can become a beautiful tourist city in eastern Nepal, attract tourists.
