  • Hydropower energy generation Transmission and distribution has remained state monopoly in Nepal. The first electricity acts, Nepal Electricity Act has open the door for pvt investors in electricity generation.

  • Khimiti 60 MW followed by Bhoti Koshi 36 MW and Inrawati were the pvt projects under foreign Investment with dollar denominated Power Purchase Agreement.

  • The former deputy Prime Minister and energy minister Miss Shaileja Acharaya and a power minister Mr. Pradip Nepal open the door for Pvt. Sector Investment in Hydropower generation.

  • Nepal Government has privatized Butwal Power Company and send Butwal (1 MW) Jinzu 2MW, Adikhola 5 MW, zimburik 12 MW to Nepali Pvt. Sector.

  • Butwal Power Sector also invested 15% shares of Himal Power Limited (Khimti Project) with these events and activities, Nepali Pvt. Investors also shown their interest to built and operates Hydro Electric Projects.

  • Nepal Electricity formulated a Power Purchase Agreement to the Nepali investor's upto 5 MW. This limit was increased gradually.

  • WINROCK International INGO has provided technical support and venture capital fund for survey and detailed design works.

  • Small Hydropower promotion project supported by GIZ also provide training and technical supports. Nepali commercial Banks provided loan, financial support for hydropower projects.

  • Over a period of more than 2 decads this sector has became one of the leading business in Nepal.
