Nepal is a country with a diverse topography that includes high mountains, deep valleys, and fast-flowing rivers. People used bamboo, ropes etc. to cross those valleys and rivers in ancient times. Later, bridges were built using steel wire ropes and decks and helped to improve transportation links in the country. The construction of trail bridges has become an essential part of Nepal's infrastructure development, particularly in rural areas where many people rely on footpaths and bridges to access healthcare, education, and other basic services. The Suspension Bridge Division (SBD) is a government institution in Nepal that is responsible for the design, construction, and maintenance of trail bridges in the country. The division was established in the 1960s with the support of the Swiss government, and its primary objective was to construct trail bridges in rural areas to improve transportation links and promote socio-economic development.Over the years, SBD has played a vital role in building and maintaining trail bridges in Nepal. The division has constructed hundreds of trail bridges in the country.
