Sanskrit education is the world's richest source of knowledge, for it encompasses oriental literature and knowledge based philosophy on which our lifestyle is oriented. Our originality is reflected through our life philosophy flourishing on the foundation of oriental civilization. Present challenges are to create civilized, cultured and ideal society making people aware of the importance of Sanskrit education. Today’s epochal necessity is to invigorate universal brotherhood disseminating the vast store of hidden knowledge in the society comfortably. Scientists have proved and acknowledged that Sanskrit is the most appropriate language to use in computer. Alphabets and grammars of Sanskrit language are more felicitous to computer use in comparison to other languages. These days Sanskrit learners have rapidly increased and they seem very serious and conscious to educate themselves through the knowledge and philosophy of this ancient language. On this background, it has become one of the most urgent tasks to acknowledge the universal effect of Sanskrit assimilating and using it as a common heritage of different races, classes and communities.

For the prosperity of an individual, nation and world, they require both material and spiritual knowledge to move ahead for their destination. Sanskrit has safely preserved both material as well as spiritual knowledge as hidden treasures. Utilizing such immense epistemology, Nepal has been contributing to excellently strengthening spiritual and material prosperity of Nepalese people and along with this mission, the nation has also been working vigorously to make Nepal as the Centre of Sanskrit study and teaching. In this context, Nepal Sanskrit University was established to begin higher level of study and research program in Sanskrit Education in 2043 B. S. To fulfill the objective, university has established and run several Vidyāpeeths (Campuses) from eastern to far western parts of Nepal. Among them, Vālmeeki Vidyāpeeth which is historically distinguished is located in the capital city, Kathmandu. This Vidyāpeeth is the largest one among all other constituent Vidyāpeeths so far as the numbers of Professors, administrative staff and students, physical infrastructures and academic programs are concerned.

Vālmeeki  Vidyāpeeth lies in Bagmati province, Kathmandu district, Ward no. 28, at Exhibition Road. Historically, this Vidyāpeeth’s roots go to the years 1927 B. S. and 1932 B. S. when Nārāyanhitee Pāthasālā and Sanskrit Pāthasālā were established respectively. After those Pāthasālās, Rājkeeya Sanskrit Mahāvidhyālaya was established in 2008 B. S. and the Mahāvidhyālaya is in the name of Vālmeeki Vidyāpeeth at present. This Vidyāpeeth had been conducting its academic programs under Tribhuvan University’s Sanskrit Adhyayan Sansthān (Institute of Sanskrit Studies) since 2030 B. S. Since the establishment of Nepal Sanskrit University in 2043 B. S. (then Mahendra Sanskrit University), Vālmeeki Vidyāpeeth is run as a constituent Vidyāpeeth of Nepal Sanskrit University.
