Job Description
GNI Nepal is implementing a SAFE-Girls Project in collaboration with UNFPA in Nepal and funded by Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA). The project focuses on addressing harmful practices and gender-based violence (GBV) experienced by adolescent girls and young women. The project aims to create safe spaces, strengthen GBV response services, and enhance comprehensive sexuality education (CSE). GNI Nepal is responsible for implementing the project in the Madhesh Province where levels of gender-based violence and harmful practices are high.
Scope of Work
The Provincial Project Coordinator, based at the target province, is responsible for overall management of the project activities of the SAFE-Girls project in the assigned province. S/he will work under the overall guidance of the Operations Division and will report directly to the Team Lead. The Provincial Project Coordinator will work closely with other key GNI Nepal technical, program, and operational staff for the effective implementation of the key components of the project and in close collaboration with focal persons from UNFPA in Nepal, partner government/line ministries, and implementing partner organizations. S/he will manage the project and collaboration and coordination with project stakeholders across the assigned province to ensure timely coordination, operational and financial management, implementation monitoring and reporting of the SAFE-Girls project ensuring full compliance with GNI Nepal’s policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities
Deliverables include but are not limited to:
- Take responsibility to oversee the project across the assigned province and ensure that activities are designed and implemented in alignment with the project document and work plan, including the consistent application of the project’s monitoring and evaluation framework across all activities and outputs.
- Support Team Lead in analyzing the GBV, One Stop Crisis Management Centers (OCMC), and Adolescent Friendly Sexual and Reproductive Health (ASRH) situation in the SAFE-Girls Project area and design strategies to address the identified gaps and issues. Similarly, support in drafting and implementing a comprehensive GBV Elimination Strategy to ensure the effectiveness and sustainability of GBV prevention and response, especially by enhancing Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) and safe spaces.
- Formulate annual work plans for SAFE-Girls project implementation that contributes to GBV prevention, ASRH, and response specifying coordination and collaboration plan with provincial and local stakeholders
- Formulate and execute the capacity building plan for equipping adolescent girls and young women to act as change agents in society
- Design, develop, and deliver training related to GBV prevention, safe house management, and essential service delivery to partner organizations and stakeholders.
- Design and ensure implementation of prevention and outreach activities to engage community influencers, men and boys for community ownership of gender-based violence and sexual and reproductive health and rights.
- Provide technical guidance and support to local governments to develop gender-transforming in-school CSE curricula, including resource materials.
- Conduct periodic meetings with the technical task-team and project coordination committees at the provincial and local levels. Collaborate with provincial and local government units to promote and facilitate gender-responsive policy, planning, and legislation through evidence-based advocacy initiatives integrated into development plans and budgets.
- Serve as the focal point for coordinating project activities by liaising with UNFPA Nepal Provincial Office, provincial and local government representatives, and project partners/field offices, as well as planning and organizing joint activities in alignment with the project document in the assigned province.
- Support the MEAL and Public Health departments in conducting surveys, research, and evaluations of GBV-related activities of the SAFE-Girls Project.
- Support the MEAL department to develop monitoring tools to ensure that the program is right-based, gender-responsive, and contributes to the elimination of gender-based violence.
- Prepare periodic (monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, and annual) reports, case studies, case stories, knowledge products, and Information, Education and Communication - Behavior Change Communication (IEC-BCC) materials concerning GBV and report to concerned authorities (province and head office level).
- Design and implement activities to ensure support and prevention systems for GBV survivors.
- Accomplish additional tasks required to ensure the smooth functioning of the project as asked by the supervisor of the thematic area and Senior Management Team (SMT).
Job Requirements
- Advanced university Degree in Gender Studies/Women’s studies, Public Health, Sociology, Development Studies other pertinent fields.
- At least five years of increasing responsibility and professional experience in management and development relevant to gender-based violence, gender equality, reproductive rights, adolescent/youth empowerment, public health, or similar roles.
- Substantive knowledge and practical experience in the area of gender-based violence prevention, ASRH, CSE, advocacy, program implementation, and monitoring and evaluation.
- Experience working with the provincial and local government agencies especially on system strengthening and policy advocacy,
- Experience in reporting to UN agencies and bilateral donors
- Excellent communication and writing skills in English and Nepali
- Ability to work collaboratively, supportively, and respectfully with others in multicultural teams and strong networking skills.
