Job Summary

The Desk Editor plays a key role in coordinating news content for television broadcasts. They are responsible for gathering, verifying, assigning, editing, and prioritizing news stories from reporters, agencies, and field sources. The Desk Editor ensures the smooth operation of the newsroom and maintains editorial standards, accuracy, and speed.

Key Responsibilities

• Monitor news wires, agencies, social media, and other sources to identify breaking news and relevant content.
• Assign stories to reporters and coordinate with field correspondents for timely coverage.
• Review scripts and video packages for accuracy, clarity, grammar, and editorial standards.
• Edit news content and headlines for bulletins and tickers.
• Prepare rundowns and help plan the sequence of stories for live news shows.
• Ensure timely flow of information between the newsroom, production, and anchor desk.
• Fact-check all incoming stories and coordinate with editors or producers when needed.
• Work under pressure in a fast-paced environment to meet broadcast deadlines.
• Maintain contact with field reporters and ensure editorial instructions are followed.

Qualifications & Skills

• Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Mass Communication, or related field.
• 2+ years of experience in a newsroom or broadcast media environment.
• Strong editorial judgment, accuracy, and understanding of news values.
• Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills in [Nepali and/or English).
• Familiarity with newsroom software and TV newsroom workflows.
• Ability to work under pressure, especially during breaking news situations.
• Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
• Team player with good communication and coordination abilities.
